Belgium cities, travel in Belgium
Belgium is a North country, on the coast of the North Sea, in the region of Benelux, which has historically influenced her growth and development throughout the years. Belgium is part of the western culture and its capital, Brussels, is at less than 1000 km away from the rest of all other important European capitals. In the recent years it has been trying to balance the demands of urbanization, economic growth, industry and extensive agriculture, but this hasn’t stopped Belgium for being a very visited country, both for business purposes (due to its important role inside the European Union, many of the most important institutions of the Union being located on Belgian territory), but also for the pleasure of traveling.
The most famous destinations in Belgium are: the Waterloo battlefield, where Napoleon lost the battle that changed Europe’s history; the Flanders Fields Country; Pajottenland, a green area with small villages, which creates a feeling of peace and calmness; Ardennes, a hilly countryside followed with forests, visited by those who enjoy nature.
There are many other places to be seen, and if we talk about Belgium we need to mention the beautiful and famous cities: first of all, the capital, Brussels, also known as the unofficial capital of the European Union, with a unique character due to the fact that it is at the crossroads of German, French and Dutch cultures, with great museums, attractive buildings and a high concentration of bars, restaurants and huge professional opportunities.
The second major city destination in Belgium is Antwerp, in Flanders, with great food and very friendly people, combined with a low stress lifestyle, which makes it a great place to visit. This city is also very well known for its diamond market, more than 85% of the world’s rough diamonds being treated in here. Ghent, once one of the biggest cities in Europe, is now a great location if you decide to travel to Belgium, due to its rich history and lively student population; Bruge, a very rich city in the 14th century, is also a nice suggestion if you are a fan of visiting cities in the locations where you travel; if you prefer to visit places surrounded by history, take a look at Ypres, a city marked my memorials and cemeteries for all who died in the War World II. Other suggestions for places to visit in Belgium are Liege, Dinant, Leuven and many others.
